EXPERIENCE

Kelly Parkway Corridor Study

RJRA staff helped implement the public involvement component for a study evaluating design alternatives for a 9-mile, multi-lane arterial with limited access that would exists partially on a new location on Kelly Parkway. The public involvement program (PIP) developed and implemented for this project has gathered, local, state, national and international recognition. The PIP, which was fully bilingual, included 4-working committees, a public information office, hundreds of stakeholder meetings, newsletters, a website, 4-major public meetings, and public educational workshops. RJRA staff was responsible for opening the public involvement office, conducting stakeholder interviews, coordinating public meetings, and publishing the quarterly newsletter. This project is recognized as one of the best examples of Context Sensitive Design Project in Texas; was awarded Runner-up in TxDOT’s Annual Environmental Awards, and was recognized by the FHWA Domestic Scan Team Review December 11, 2002, as the best example of State of the Practice for Public Involvement.
